چکیده

This contribution presents the different processes applied to a wide area DEM (DigitalElevations Model) in a region in the South of Venezuela, that was obtained by means ofsingle-pass airborne SAR interferometry. Taking into account the well-known SARtechnology limitations, the applied SAR interferometric processing as well as the flightmission constraints, different filtering and mosaic techniques have been applied tocompute the DEM contour maps.

Sensor and Data Fusion Contest: Test Imagery to Compare and Combine Airborne SAR and Optical Sensors for Mapping

Presently, a data fusion contest is conducted to compare the potential of airborne SAR with optical sensors for mapping applications. The goal of the test is to answer two questions: (1) Can state-of-the-art airborne SAR compete with optical sensors in the mapping domain? (2) What can be gained when SAR and optical images are used in combination, i.e., when methods for information fusion are ap...

Investigation of Direct Sensor Orientation for Dem Generation

The direct sensor orientation based on the combination of an inertial measurement system (IMU) and relative kinematic GPSpositioning has reached a high accuracy potential. By this reason it can be used not only for the generation of ortho images, but also for the georeferencing of models for the generation of digital elevation models (DEM). With the data set of the test ‘Integrated Sensor Orien...

Comparison of Digital Elevation Data from Airborne Laser and Interferometric Sar Systems

Requirements for precise digital elevation data (i.e., Digital Elevation Models, or DEMs) of varying levels of detail are being formulated for different fields of application. The degree of detail found in a DEM is usually characterized by the horizontal sample spacing and by the vertical accuracy of the samples. Increased detail is normally associated with increased cost to the user, which fue...

Forest Inventory Attribute Estimation Using Airborne Laser Scanning, Aerial Stereo Imagery, Radargrammetry and Interferometry–finnish Experiences of the 3d Techniques

Three-dimensional (3D) remote sensing has enabled detailed mapping of terrain and vegetation heights. Consequently, forest inventory attributes are estimated more and more using point clouds and normalized surface models. In practical applications, mainly airborne laser scanning (ALS) has been used in forest resource mapping. The current status is that ALS-based forest inventories are widesprea...

Semi-automatic Object Extraction – Lessons Learned

This paper summarizes experiences and views gained through development and application of semi-automatic object extraction and gives recommendations for further developments. The last decade has seen a lot of research efforts in the field of object extraction from aerial imagery and digital surface models from airborne laser scanning. Despite these tremendous efforts, very few approaches are co...
